Dr Derrick Setchell
After graduating in 1971 from UCH, he was a Harkness Fellow at the University of Michigan (MS in Fixed Prosthodontics, 1974-6). An FDS of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh and England, he is a registered specialist in Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics. Definitely a “wet-fingered” clinical academic, he has also supervised research projects for over 90 postgraduates focused on occlusion, operator accuracy in clinical tasks and the long-term survival of restorations. He has lectured and conducted practical courses at major meetings in many countries. Clinically, he majors in extensive fixed prosthodontics, with implants and adhesive technologies and now appropriately prevalent. As a teacher he is a member of HEA and has supported development of five new graduate programmes at EDI over three decades. Amongst other professional activities he is a civilian Consultant Adviser to the armed services and Clinical Tutor (Dental) for UCLH NHS Trust. Married (to a dentist) with two sons and living in Barnet, he hates commuting in London and bureaucracy but loves making things, tinkering with machinery, sauciness and boats! |
