Dr. Dirk Bister

Dirk qualified in Medicine and Dentistry at the Heinrich – Heine University, Düsseldorf, Germany. He also received a doctorate from the same institution.

Dirk trained in the combined MSc / Orthodontics programme at Guy’s and St Thomas’, UMDS. This was followed by two further years of training as an FTTA at GKT Dental Institute.

Dirk is currently Consultant Orthodontist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation Trust and Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. He also works in Private Practice in Cambridge.

As Consultant, Dirk is involved in teaching undergraduate students (BDS), SpR’s and FTTA’s in Orthodontics as well as Dental Nurses and Radiographers.

He has organised and run a variety of courses for SpR’s and postgraduate students and is involved in the supervision of MSc Projects.

Dirk uses ‘Aesthetic’ and Ligual appliances in his practice and has used implants for orthodontic anchorage since 2000 and micro – implant based systems since 2003.

Dirk has presented papers and lectured in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and Greece.

Dirk has peer assessed articles for the European Journal of Orthodontics, Journal of Orthodontics and Cleft Palate Craniofacial Journal.
